Heating goes first (Wattslife)

The heating is responsible for most of the energy consumption in every single household, but if this is exactly where you spend most of your money there you can also find the greatest opportunities to economize. In this sense there are many different ways to go to achieve this goal. We all know that isolation and installing the right heating system is evidently playing a very important role by the time you build up a house, but still each of us can definitely contribute to reduce all waste of energy with his behavior. You can easily, for example, drop down the temperature in your house by 5 degrees during the night without any impact on your comfort. If you decrease the power of your heating system already one or two hours before going to bed, you will save money and see immediate effects on your bill.

Keep in mind that the costs you have to bear for heating your house are strictly related to the inside temperature, which means by every single degree that this temperature goes up, you will end up by getting an increase by 6% of your energy bill. On the other hand, this is self-evident, if the temperature goes down by one or more degrees, you will save money.

A few tips for you to economize

  • You shall regularly purge your heating system;
  • You shall isolate all pipes located in rooms that are not heated (cellar, etc.);
  • Avoid having curtains in front of the radiators as this does not help, it actually slows down, spreading the heat around your house and the heat is actually being wasted through the windows;
  • Install thermostats that you can easily program thereby keeping the right temperature to fulfill your needs;
  • Keep closed all doors of the rooms you are heating;
  • Close all shutters in the evening in order to reduce any waste of energy and heat towards the exterior of the house.
