52.4% of the people living in the capital city of the Grand Duchy own the house or apartment where they have settled down. This percentage is much lower than the national average (73%), with that same figure (73%) registered also in the outskirts of Luxembourg City.

The average surface of the dwellings where people reside in the capital stands at 105.5 sq. m., a figure that once again is significantly lower than the national average (129.9) while this stands at 144.8 in the neighboring municipalities. However, households in Luxembourg City are also much smaller (1.94 persons) than in its outskirts (2.47) while that same figure stands at 2.41 for the Grand Duchy as a whole. This means that the differences described above are less relevant if you consider the surface available pro capita.

The average monthly rent in the capital amounts to € 998 which is significantly higher than the national average (€ 888) but still much lower than the figure registered for the municipalities that are situated just nearby Luxembourg City (€ 1,125). However, the properties that are being rented in Luxembourg City are also much smaller (their average surface stands at 78.5 sq. m.) than those available in the outskirts of the capital (97.7) while the average for the country as a whole corresponds to 83.5 sq. m. This means that in Luxembourg City people are paying a rent standing at 14.65 €/sq. m. which is definitely higher than the national average (12.45) and of what residents of the outskirts are spending on a monthly basis (12.71 €/sq. m.).
